How do I stop LOCA UV iPhone Glue Remover Evaporating From The Plastic Shipping Bottle

Liquid optically-clear adhesive or LOCA is used extensively on the screens of iPhones and other devices to bind the outer protective glass, with glass touch screen to the LCD display.  In the event of damage to the screen then removing the glue to replace the screen on a functional LCD displayed is extremely difficult, as the glue is resistant to most solvents.

A number of sellers are selling a special solvent to soften this LOCA glue, but it is highly volatile stuff and evaporates almost before your eyes.  If you buy a large bottle and it arrives smelling of solvent or with cling film around the top then you need to do something to prevent expensive loss due to evaporation, with your profits or savings vanishing into thin air.

A recent eBay seller suggested to prevent wastage that I keep the glue remover in the small glass bottle and put some in the dropper when I needed it, as I needed to find another solution to the dropper evaporation issue, I created a separate blog entry for this issue:

Link to blog entry on sealing a small plastic dropper bottle with PTFE tape

I then remember an old boss from my days as an Artificial Intelligence programmer with Texas Instruments UK, Graham had done his Ph'd about PTFE tape and discovered how impervious it was and that only Hydrogen (or was it Helium) was capable of getting through a PTFE seal.  So I tried it and low and behold it really worked, no more losses. This tape fix really works, you can SMELL the difference, i.e. nothing. No Leaks and no smell of solvent in the air.

Here is the video I made:

And a link to Amazon UK, the tape is really cheap and in this case could save you a packet:

If your in the USA here is the Amazon USA link to the PTFE Tape:

A number of sellers on eBay etc are selling a special solvent to soften this LOCA glue, but it is highly volatile stuff and evaporates almost before your eyes.  I recent purchased a small bottle from eBay along with new LOCA glue.  It came in a small software plastic dropper bottle, and had some cling film around the top to prevent evaporation.

When it arrived only 3/4 or 75% was left in the little bottle, and by the time I have gotten round to using it some weeks later it was completely empty.

The eBay supplier of the bottle was really good about the evaporation issue and promptly sent me out a new glass bottle full of fluid and said he'd had problems with evaporation and moved to glass bottles which were a bit better.

He also suggested to prevent wastage that I keep the glue remover in the small glass bottle and put some in the dropper when I needed it, so I needed a solution to the dropper evaporation issue.

Having paid £10 for a small amount of glue and remover I thought I'd better investigated the matter as I could be losing £10 per week in evaporation at this rate.

Problems With Purchased LOCA Glue Remover Evaporating

Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive LOCA is a UV activated glue and the remover is very EXPENSIVE, if you value your cash as I do, then you may want to watch this and my other 2 videos I will be putting up.

I'm doing increasing numbers of iPhone, iPad and Tablet repairs often involving removing the the screen Liquid optically-clear adhesive or LOCA.  Its really very effective but equally stubborn to remove.   Like most people I've have to resort to specialist LOCA removing solvents, but I've had issues with them and how they are shipped.

 This video introduces the issues.

Please given the video a thumbs up if its useful and share it elsewhere.
